Amid Covid-19 Scare, Pregnant women in Kupwara struggle to access healthcare facilities

Kupwara 05 June (KNB): Strong resentment is brewing among the diminutive pregnant ladies close to delivery date at a quarantine centre in Kupwara district over alleged lack of facilities, poor hygienic conditions and demanded administration to retest them all as they have not shown any symptoms of Coronavirus since they have been sent to quarantine centre.

A group of Pregnant ladies who have been quarantined after declared positive for Coronavirus in Kupwara district are worrisome regarding their close delivery date as the centre lacks all medical facilities and demanded government to either send them to home quarantine or to a well equipped hospital in case they receive any contractions.

They further alleged administration of not providing them regular checkups by doctors which is the main pinpoint during the pregnancy and wanted to get retested as their body has not shown any symptoms related to the virus  since the day they have been quarantined.

One of the pregnant ladies among them said, ” As my delivery date is nearer, doctors at Kupwara hospital refused to admit me without Covid-19 test reports.Sampling was done and reports were expected three days after instead I got a news of me being positive only a day after and I was quarantined along with my three years old daughter at a quarantine centre in Cheara koot sub primary healthcare centre.”

She further said, ” Neither any doctor has come for our checkup nor my daughter has been sampled.I am worried for both my three years old daughter and my expecting kin undergoing any complications which would be very difficult for me to endeavour.”

Another lady said, “Instead of putting us here it was better for the administration to put us in home quarantine. There is no medical staff and no checking is done there is neither cleanliness nor social distancing”.

When Kashmir News Bureau contacted Deputy Commissioner Kupwara Anshul Garg he said, ” A specified medical team is already present at quarantine centres who check the patients on a regular basis. Indeed, In case of pregnant ladies a special concern and care is required, I will just fix it out and see whatever necessary and immediate steps we could take for them.”(KNB)
