BJP’s former Sarpanch accused of duping People

Police Register FIR for Alleged Scam, Booked Under Sections 318, 351 BNS

Srinagar, March 30 (KNB): A group of youth from Bandipora district have come forward with allegations against Mehraj Rather, a self-proclaimed political leader. Rather has been accused of posing as a recruiter for the Indian Army, promising employment opportunities to youth in exchange for large sums of money.

According to the allegations, Rather has taken approximately ₹2 lakh from the affected youth, leaving many families in financial distress. A screenshot obtained by Kashmir News Bureau-KNB appears to show Rather asking for a deposit of ₹20,000 into a bank account affiliated with one Mohd Akbar.

Irshad Ahmad, one of the affected youth, shared his experience, saying, “I gave him ₹2 lakh, but he has denied any involvement now. He claimed to have links with Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha, saying he treats him like a son. We want justice.”

The affected youth claim to have bank statements and WhatsApp chats to prove Rather’s deceit. “It’s been two years, and he’s been saying he’ll get us the job, but now he’s refusing to return our money,” Ahmad added.

Rather has responded to the allegations, terming them “false and baseless” on social media. Meanwhile, taking cognizance of the matter, the police have registered FIR no 59/2025 against Mehraj Rather under sections 318 and 351 of the BNS.(KNB)
