An inter-school symposium titled “Response in Disasters” was organised by Civil Defence at Rahi Public School (RPS) Gund Hassibath, Lawaypora, Srinagar. Seven schools participated in the event. SP City West, Dr. Sunil Gupta was Chief Guest and Aamir Ali, Dy. Chief Warden was Guest of Honour. Others present on the occasion included Rahi Riyaz Ahmed, Divisional Warden CD, Mohammed Rafiq Principal RPS and Ghulam Mohiuddin, SHO.
The students were judged by Ghulam Rasool from CD, Mohammed Yasin, Headmaster Govt. Boys School, Lawaypora and Imdad Hussain from RPS. The first prize won by Asif Ali Rather of RPS, 2nd prize by Javaid Hussain Govt. Middle School Lawaypora and 3rd prize by Taffazul Ahmed from Holy Mission Public School, Narbal. Consolation prize was given to Aliya Khatoon of Scholar’s Public High School Natipora, Mehreen Imtiyaz from Iqra Public School, Bemina and Suhail Ahmed from Islamic Educational Institute Lawaypora. Other children who spoke on the topic included Iqra Bashir, Ambisath Jan, Umar Rasool, Suhail Ahmed, Asif Ahmed and Zahida.
On the occasion a large number of Civil Defence Volunteers were also present. SP West distributed sweets amongst the students.
Meanwhile, a joint anti-tobacco squad supported by Civil Defence, comprising of Shabir Lone, Food Safety Officer (FSO) Srinagar, Gowhar Jeelani, SDPO Nehru Park and CD Volunteers imposed a fine of Rs 3050 on 25 persons caught smoking in public places. The squad visited various areas including Nishat Garden, Boulevard, Nehrupark, Dalgate. The team of CD Volunteers along with Shabir Lone FSO, also inspected various offices located at Bemina, Batmaloo, SMHS, LD Hospital, Old Secretariat and caught five persons, including a Casualty Medical Officer (CMO) of Associated Hospitals and one JE, who were smoking in their offices.
Civil Defence also convened a Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) meeting under chairmanship of Commanding Officer, SDRF 1st Bn Mehraj Ahmed Shah and promoted around 30 CD Volunteers as Wardens, in recognition of their commendable voluntary service. The meeting was attended by Umar Nedou, Chief Warden, Aamir Ali, Dy. Chief Warden, Mushtaq Ahmed, Dy. Comndt SDRF, Naib Tehsildar Srinagar Mohammed Ashraf Shah, Dy SP (DAR) Srinagar Bashir Ahmed and ASI (M) Shabir Ahmed Khan.
