It was dug for a major militant attack: BSF
Jammu | Mar 04 : The soldiers who were clearing an area in R.S. Pura sector of Jammu of wild grass claimed that they have stumbled upon a 30-foot secret tunnel running through the International Border. The Border Security Force or BSF says the tunnel was dug for a major terror attack.
According to reports, the tunnel, which is 10 feet deep, was concealed under elephant grass at Jammu’s RS Pura sector near a post called Allah Mai De Kothey.
“It appears that a big terrorist attack was being planned after infiltration through this tunnel in the near future,” said senior BSF officer Rakesh Sharma.
The BSF has recorded its protest with Pakistan and says it has evidence on which it expects action.
“We’ve requested Pakistan Rangers to come forward for investigation. They said we’ll take care and take action,” said Rakesh Sharma.
Meanwhile BSF Director General D.K. Pathak will be in Jammu on Friday to take stock of security on the international border following the discovery of the tunnel.
Earlier, the BSF had detected a 400-metre long cross-border tunnel along the border in July 2012 in Samba sector. In May 2014, it found a caved-in portion of a tunnel in Chillyari border belt in Samba district, which was found 23 metres inside Indian side.
Another tunnel was discovered in August 2014, which was approximately 130 to 150 metres in length along the Line of Control (LoC) and originated on the Pakistan side, near a forward post along Indo-Pak border in Jammu region’s sensitive Pallanwala sector. (PTK)
