The government had decided to replace ITBP and CRPF personnel with J&K police and J&K Armed Force to man estate colonies for Darbar Move employees in Jammu.

The development comes following weekend’s incident when ITBP and CRPF men allegedly joined Jammu based employees and locals in harassing Kashmiris after the end of India and Pakistan cricket match in Asia cup.

“A meeting under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary among other things decided that ITBP and CRPF security presently deployed in the various Estate colonies at Jammu will be replaced by JKP/JKAP,” reads an order by Director Estates, a copy of which lies with news agency GNS.

Separately, the government’s estate department ordered to regulate the entry of vehicles in the estate owned colonies.

In this direction, the estate department decided to issue passes in the form of stickers in favour of the employees putting up in the colonies.

The watch and ward staff has been also asked to close main gate of colony by10pm on each day and the employees have been advised to cooperate with the security staff.

On Saturday, the Darbar move employees from Kashmir alleged that they were harassed soon after cricket match between India and Pakistan in ongoing Asia cup tournament was over.

A number of employees said that their counterparts from Jammu and local residents assembled in the premises of government quarters and started raising slogans. One of the slogans, according to the Kashmir secretariat employees was “Jis ko yehan rehana hai Ram Ram Kehna hai” (One who has to stay here must say Ram Ram)”.

Later they banged the doors and windows in order to frighten the Kashmir staff. The Kashmir employees said that the security personnel deployed in the government quarters supported the sloganeering mob. (GNS)
