SKUAST Jammu likely to get a new VC soon

 

Srinagar, June 11(KNB): Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agriculture Sciences and Technology (SKUAST) Jammu is likely to get a new regular Vice Chancellor in a few days, sources revealed.

Pertinently, SKUAST Jammu is without a regular Vice- Chancellor since March 2019, Dr R K Gupta, Director Research SKUAST Jammu, took the charge of Vice-Chancellor in the month of February 2020 over the charge of Vice-Chancellor by Dr K S Risam, who was holding this charge for the last around 10 months since completion of the tenure of Dr Pardeep Sharma as VC.

According to the sources, the name of the new Vice-Chancellor is likely to be finalized very soon and the new one could be from the Jammu division.

Earlier, two main issues regarding the renaming of the University and the appointment of the University’s (VC) were raised by the delegation consisting of faculty members and administrative staff of the university before Brig (retd) Veteran Anil Gupta, spokesperson of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

In a press release BJP stated that the the university deserves a separate Identity and it will be renamed after a local personality soon and the other issue which is lingering on since 2019 and the University has been without a regular VC a Selection Committee was constituted by the Government of Jammu and Kashmir for drawing a panel for the selection of VC for SKUAST, Jammu vide Government Order No. 152-Agri of 2019 dated 21.08.2019.

It further stated that the members of this Expert Committee were Dr K P Singh, Vice Chancellor, Haryana Agricultural University (Convener of the Search Committee); Dr T. Mahapatra, Director General of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research; Dr Punjab Singh, Nominee of the UGC chairman and Atal Dullo Financial Commissioner Jammu and Kashmir Government.(KNB)
