Srinagar, May 31 : Authorities on Tuesday seized the property of two government gunmen accused in the massacre of seven civilians at Sadrakoot in Bandipora district on 5 October, 1996.
The properties of the accused—Abdul Rashid Parray (alias) Rashid Billa and Muhammad Ayoub Dar were attached by a party headed by SHO and Tehsildar Hajin under relevant sections of CrPC on the directions of Judicial Magistrate 1st class Sumbal Sonawari, officials told news agency GNS.
The high court while hearing a petition by families of the victims in March this year had directed police to reveal as to what steps have been taken to arrest the accused.
The petitioners say their kin were killed by the government gunmen, Rashid Billa, Wali Mohammad Mir and Mohammad Ayoub Dar.
Later, the magistrate had ordered attaching their property to pressure them to appear before the law.
On March 22, army informed the J&K high court that it has disbanded on March 10 this year Mohammad Ayub Dar about whom police had said to have written numerous communications, seeking his custody in connection with massacre of the seven civilians.
According to police, Dar, was working with Territorial Army of 161 Bn but Assistant Solicitor General of India informed the high court that Dar has been disbanded. Investigating officer, Mehboob Hussain (SHO Sumbal police station), who was present in the court, said that the information about Dar’s disbanding by army has been received by him only now (on March 22).
