Srinagar 05 January (KNB): The Srinagar city’s main roads, after the snowfall from the intervening night of 4th and 5th January, became impassable for the commuters and vehicles due to R&B department’s negligence to clear snow from the roads of the city during morning hours.
The Srinagar Municipal Corporation officials had dispatched its workers early morning to clear the by-lanes and other interior lanes of the city, but the R&B department failed to do their job at the same time.
“I had to travel towards my Uncle’s place to take him for medical checkup, but since the snow wasn’t cleared off the roads, I faced a lot of problems to reach the destination on time,” said a local, heading to Dargah via a Rajbagh – Zero Bridge road.
He added, “I faced immense difficulties just to cover a distance I would do otherwise in 20-30 minutes because my vehicle was continuously drifting here and there due to the snow accumulation on the road.”
He further said that he missed out the appointment that was scheduled at a medical centre for his uncle today.
Meanwhile, the R&B department who is duty-bound to make roads hassle-free in times of bad weather seems nonchalant in contributing its part. The negligence towards their duty has cost many citizens of the city their precious time as well as increase the risk of accidents.
Similarly, at the same time, the SMC officials and their on-ground team have been on the job since early morning.
Talking to Kashmir News Bureau Chief Engineer R&B Kashmir, he said that the updates related to the snow clearance would be shared after the stopping of snowfall and further ignored to comment on the present situation of main roads throughout the city. (KNB)
