Probe ordered into south Kashmir killings: DGP

‘Killings are unfortunate’

Srinagar, Dec 04 : Director General of Police (DGP) K Rajendra Kumar today said they have ordered a probe into the killing of Fisheries department employee and ex-Congress Sarpanch in south Kashmir.

Talking to KNS over phone Rajendra while terming the killings as “unfortunate” said “We are investigating the matter. We are also concerned about it” he said.

Sajad Ahmad Malik, alias Bita Malik, son of Muma Malik, resident of Batagund, Verinag, was killed on Thursday evening reportedly by the soldiers of Army’s 19 Rashtriya Rifles (RR). Malik was in detention in Police Station Dooru for nearly a month and was being taken to home by the police itself when he was killed.

Similarly, Asadullah Kumar who was an employee in Fisheries department was killed after government forces laid a siege at his native village Tchansar village in Kulgam district.

Commenting about the overall security situation after the killings, the DGP said precautionary measures should have been taken while ferrying Malik home. “Since he was killed in Army firing, we have initiated probe into it,” he said, adding, the army even didn’t fire deliberately. “All I can say it was unfortunate,” he said.

Asked if the killing of ex-Sarpanch could have been avoided by just apprehending him, he said it is very unfortunate and “we are also concerned about it”.

“We are trying to bring back all the local boys who have joined militancy. The new video of militant commander Zakir Musa is also a part of the process. The situation is well under control,” he added. (KNS)
