KCSDS Calls For Peoples Movement To Save Article 35 A

Kashmir Center for Social and Developmental Studies (KCSDS), headed by Hameeda Nayeem, organised a conference here on Saturday calling for the peoples movement for protection of article 35 A.

The chairperson called on the youth to have critical understanding of political scenario and harms therein with the abrogation of article 35 A.

Emphasizing the role of right-wing organizations in repelling article 35 A, Hameeda said that various lobbies are trying their best to cut through the existential roots of Kashmir.

“These organisations want to scrap the article and make Kashmir free for all. This is the way, we will be selling our properties and be bulldozed. We won’t be able to sustain our identity, and in no time we will become an endangered species,” Hameeda said.

She also talked about the aim of right-wing designs to change demography of the state.

“Identification of 11 more destinations for Hindu pilgrims would result in the cultural aggression.” Hameeda added.

She also raised the issue of West Pakistan refugees seeking the ownership of land and other citizenship rights ultimately leading to regional power imbalance.

“The power balance has already faded away, but these threats may end the symbolical power balance too,” Hameeda expressed.

Prominent Civil Society member, Shakeel Qalandar in the conference gave a historic overview of article 35 A and the threats posed to Kashmir’s special status.

“We need to be sure enough about the competency of the supreme court advocates and their strength to represent our aspirations,” Qalandar said.

Qalandar also expressed concern on the victimization of Kashmiris, amid the policies and operations backed by the government to degrade the special status of Kashmir.

Senior Advocate, GN Shaheen, speaking on the consequences of the abrogation of article 35 A, slammed the government for their non-seriousness toward the issue.

“It is aimed to change the demography of the state with fatal consequences to the Muslim majority,” Shaheeh said.

2 minute silence was also observed in the conference-hall in remembrance of veteran journalist Ved Bhasin, who recently passed away on November 5.
