KAHS reaches out to frontline healthcare workers, distributes protective gear

‘Will focus on rural healthcare institutions in another phase’
Srinagar: As the world grapples with coronavirus, people in most countries are turning to their governments and public health care systems to battle the pandemic. In Kashmir region besides government, several other humanitarian organizations are working to contain the deadly virus.
In this regard, Kashmir American Humane Society (KAHS), a non-profit organization that works exclusively for public and charitable purposes has completed distribution of protective gear under phase-2 to overcome the tribulation faced by people due to Covid-19.
Secretary, Press and Publicity, Kashmir American Humane Society, Nazir Ganaie, said that that the organization has taken a remarkable initiative to help those who are in the frontline of this crisis by providing them with free of cost protective gear.
“We have successfully completed the second phase of distribution and in total we have donated thousands of gowns, masks and hand sanitizers to different government and non-governmental organizations, including several NGOs,” he said.
Faisal Butt, member of KAHS said, “ Kashmir American Humane Society (KAHS), a non-profit organization that has developed and implemented several projects to improve the social, physical and economic well-being of people has successfully completed the second phase of distribution of protective gear”.
“We all are fighting a deadly pandemic and it becomes our duty to provide help and assistance to those who are on the frontline of this crisis,” Butt said. “To date, we have provided protective gear to various hospitals, medical centers and other organizations. We are gearing up to increase our distribution and reach out to rural areas as well.”
KAHS has been involved in community-based initiatives for several years now, it has made a significant difference in many lives. In November 2013, KAHS, in affiliation with Ellen Meadows Prosthetic Hand Foundation (LN-4), a US-based non-profit organization, and Voluntary Medicare Society (VMS), Bemina, did a Free Prosthetic Hand Clinic in Kashmir and fitted more than 70 amputees with LN-4 prosthetic hands, at no cost to the recipient. The NGO worked tirelessly during September 2014 floods and provided relief and rehabilitation to many flood-hit families. KAHS has implemented several projects related to health care, education & livelihood and helped hundreds of needy families in Kashmir.
Meanwhile, founder of KAHS, Majid Butt, said “We all have to show a sense of responsibility because there are limited resources, but the needs are unlimited.”   “These are uncertain times and people are full of fear & anxiety, so the need of the hour is for everyone to step up and help. The least we can do it stay safe by staying home,” he said, adding “We will focus on rural areas in another phase, he added”
Senior advisor to KAHS, Narjees Nawab said that “the situation demands an extraordinary response. KAHS, a California based non-profit organization has a distinction of immediate and comprehensive response mechanism. A collective effort to prevent the spread of the disease by wearing protective masks and gears is indispensable, and we will be working to that end.”
Kashmir American Humane Society was founded in 2011 with an aim to help the needy people, especially in Kashmir region.
Pertinently, the organization does not have any paid staff, neither does it have any administrative costs. All the work is being done and supported by one’s own free will and voluntary action.
