After fire and crane crash incidents in Saudi, a sudden storm followed by flash floods inundated Makkah and other cities killing at least two people.
As per reports, a child and a man was electrocuted in Jeddah when they touched a lamp post while attempting to cross the water- filled road which wreaked havoc in the area. Makkah, Jeddah, Madinah , Yanbu and other elevated cities were hit by the storm on Tuesday morning followed my heavy rains till afternoon.
Heavy rains lasted for two hours due to which the roads got submerged. Dozens of vehicles were carried away by the floods while onlookers watched helplessly.
Meteorologists said that 22 mm rain was recorded in Jeddah which led to flash floods in the city.
”Around 10 A.M , Makkah was hit by heavy storm which was followed by heavy rainfall till 1 P.M leading to flash floods in many cities,” said Zubair- an employee
However, police and social service organizations came to action within no time and saved lives of many people. Locals were also indulged in rescue operations.
There were reports that two children went missing from northern part of Saudi Arabia however amid concerns say that they have been carried away by flash floods.
Schools and other institutions were closed on Tuesday as the possibility of storm was already predicted in Makkah. Three universities suspended courses for the sake of students safety.
Due to sudden flash floods , power supply was turned off in Jeddah and was however restored at 3 P.M.
