An encounter is underway between militants and government forces in Hafoo Nazneenpora village of Tral in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district, police said.
An official said that army and SOG of Jammu and Kashmir Police laid a siege to the village after inputs about the presence of militants.
As soon as they approached the suspected house, the militants hiding inside opened heavy fire, said the official.
The forces returned the fire, triggering an encounter.
Meanwhile, stone pelting protests have erupted in Nazneenpora and adjacent villages of Pinglish and Hayena with youth taking to streets and trying to disrupt the forces’ operation against the militants.
