Cyber police warns against misuse of social media

Srinagar, April 16(KNB): The Cyber Police Station Jammu and Kashmir today warned social media users against its misuse.
The statement issued to KNB reads, “There have been a lot of reports of misusing of social media sites particularly Facebook, Twitter and Instagram besides other by the miscreants who are using fake and anonymous names. The Cyber Police Kashmir is monitoring all the profiles and the content being uploaded by the users. We at Cyber Police Station are also exploring the possibilities of invoking all the appropriate provisions of law available against such users. The anonymity of the profiles of users is of no defense and we can track them and bring them to face the law.”
“Notwithstanding, awareness programme to the general public for use of social media have also been started by Cyber Police Station Kashmir, Zone, Srinagar to aware the General public for best use of social media, it added.

“Whenever, any information with regard to misuse of social media is observed, a prompt response/action is to be made by the Cyber Police Station Kashmir Zone. One of the examples is that on 14.04.2020, a fake new was uploaded on facebook wherein a morphed picture of Lalchowk Gantaghar Srinagar has been shown with a flag of Pakistan occupied Kashmir. Immediately the FIR was registered, accused were identified and arrested under the provisions of law,” it added,” the statement issued to KNB reads.

It further said, “During the recently monitoring and patrolling of Social Media platforms viz. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Whatsapp and linkedin, there has been instances where some of the users were found posting fake news, fake documents, incriminating / hateful posts and posts to glorify militants or promote militant ideologies by using fake identity. These kinds of posts not only destabilize the social fabric and disturb order in the society, but also escalate militant activities. On the identification of such posts, action under relevant sections of law was initiated and FIRs were registered at various Police Stations and Cyber Police Station of Kashmir Zone, Srinagar respectively. So far 08 FIRs have been registered against such users in the different Police Stations of Kashmir Zone including Cyber Police Station Kashmir, Srinagar. The details of these FIRs along with the gist report are as under, ” it further added.
The statement also gave details about the FIRs registered for misuse of Social Media in Kashmir valley.

1. Handwara FIR No. 25/2020 U/S 505(I) 153A IPC On 20.02-2020, one fake news was circulated on Whatsapp group titled “Kashmir Valley” disclosing that a security forces has killed Jahnagir, Zia Ahmad and Uzair Ahmad in fake encounter. Bailed out
2. Dooru FIR No. 13 /2020 registered U/S 505, 353 IPC 66(C) IT Act On 11.03.2020, one post was uploaded on facebook which instigating the general public against the security forces and the Central Government. Not Arrested
3. Cyber Police station Srinagar FIR 05/ 2020 stand registered U/S 13UA(P) Act, 505, IPC On 05.04.2020, an old video was uploaded showing that 3 civilian were killed and 30 others injured to create panic. Arrested
4. Cyber Police station Kashmir FIR No. 06/2020 under Section 465, 466, 471 IPC On 9.04.2020 some miscreants uploaded fabricated document related to record of proceedings of Hon’ble Supreme Court of India disclosing restoration of internet communication. Not Arrested
5. Beerwah FIR 82/20202 registered U/S 188, 505(B) IPC On 10.04.2020 a fake news was uploaded with regard to diagnosis of covid-19 in two resident of village Khandipora Beerwah.

6. Sopore FIR No. 53/2020 U/S 153/A , 166 IPC One Police personnel uploaded a self made video on Whatsapp and Facebook in which he using derogatory language in Phari against Kashmiri community. Arrested
7. Kupwara FIR No. 69/2020 U/S 505(2) IPC A fake and manipulated contents of information displaying propaganda against Administration and security forces were uploaded on Twitter. Arrested
