After three consecutive days, HW reopens

Authorities allow traffic from Jammu to proceed towards Srinagar

Srinagar, Jan 09 (KNS): After remaining closed for three consecutive days, the 300 km long Srinagar-Jammu National Highway, the only road connecting Valley with rest of the country was Monday thrown open for the vehicular movement.

According to a top traffic police official, the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway that remained closed for three consecutive days for the vehicular movement was thrown open after the road was cleared-off snow.

The authorities closed the highway following the slippery conditions that triggered due to the heavy snowfall in the Valley.

He said that the stranded vehicles on Jammu side were allowed to proceed towards Srinagar yesterday while the fresh traffic was allowed to ply from Jammu to Srinagar this morning. “The vehicles from Srinagar side were not allowed to proceed towards Jammu today. The traffic from Jammu towards Srinagar was only allowed to proceed as precautionary measures,” he said.

Pertinently, normal life across the Valley was disrupted due to the heavy snowfall in Kashmir.
In view of the heavy snowfall, the highway was also closed by the authorities following the slippery conditions on roads that triggered after the heavy snowfall at various places. (KNS)
