The young brigade of Bollywood glammed up the 4th Gionee Star Global Indian Music Academy (GiMA) Awards held in Mumbai on Monday.
Ranveer Singh as host gave a spirited tribute to Amitabh Bachchan’s iconic Anthony Gonsalves avatar, cracking jokes that had the audience in splits.
The star of the evening, however, was Sonakshi Sinha who looked stunning in a blue backless gown that highlighted her curves. The actress gave a spellbinding performance as well. Kapil Sharma came on stage to keep everyone in splits. His act was followed by an electrifying performance by Yo Yo Honey Singh.
Initiated to applaud the finest achievements in the music industry, the evening saw some fine performances by stalwarts of music. Legendary singer Asha Bhosle paid tribute to R. D. Burman performing a few of his iconic songs, including Mera naam Shabnam, Dum maro dum, Gulabi chehra, Duniya mein logon ko and Aa dekhe zara. Clinton Cerejo of Coke Studio fame also performed at the evening.
Last year’s romantic hit Aashiqui 2 grabbed six GiMA awards leading in the film category, including awards for its lead singers Arijit Singh and Shreya Ghoshal.
The prestigious Lifetime Achievement Honour was awarded to Bhosle for her outstanding contribution to the music industry. Pandit Ram Narayan, considered the finest sarangi exponent in the country and the man who made it a popular instrument, was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Honour in the classical category.
” It’s very special when you win an award. It reminds you there is so much work to do, so much more music to enthrall audiences with. I am very proud to be a part of this industry. Aashiqui 2 has definitely been the flavour of the year,” said Shreya on winning an award for best playback female for the film Aashiqui 2 .
