SRINAGAR, Aug 4: Jammu and Kashmir Education Minister Sakeena Itoo on Tuesday issued a strong warning against harassment or molestation of female students in educational institutions, saying the government would not tolerate such acts under any circumstances, regardless of the institution’s stature or whether it is government or privately managed.
“If a female student does not feel safe in her school, then the education being imparted there is of no value. Harassment or molestation of girl students will not be tolerated at any cost in any educational institution, no matter how big the name of the school is. This will not be tolerated in government or private institutions, or in any institution irrespective of the department under which it functions. I further warn that strict action will be taken against those found involved,” the minister said.
Her remarks come days after an alleged incident of harassment of a female student at RP School surfaced, triggering widespread outrage on social media and leaving many netizens shocked. The incident prompted demands for a fair and transparent investigation and stronger measures to ensure the safety of students in educational institutions.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment to providing a safe learning environment, the minister said every educational institution has a responsibility to protect the dignity and security of its students and warned that strict legal action would be taken against anyone found guilty.(KNB)
