Uri Encounter ends: 3 militants killed, 2 houses damaged

‘5 civilians including trooper injured

Uri, Sep 24 : Three militants including an army trooper were killed in a day-long encounter in frontier Kalgi village of Uri tehsil. The encounter had triggered between forces and militants Sunday morning after army laid cordon in the area.

According to KNS correspondent Nadeem Khwaja, three militants were killed and their bodies have been recovered while four civilians and one army trooper were also injured during the gunfight.
“All the three slain militants were foreigners. The encounter has ended. Two houses were also damaged,” SDPO Uri, Javaid Ahmed told KNS.




As per initial reports, at least 3-4 militants were believed to be stuck in the region. The encounter came after security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Uri near the Line of Control (LOC).

An army official said, “Security personnel laid a cordon and started a search operation in the Kalgai area of Uri this morning following information about the presence of militants there.”

Srinagar based Army PRO Col Rajesh Kalia didn’t respond to repeated phone calls. (KNS)
