Ubaid Mushtaq, First Boy Who Fell To The Bullets Of Forces, After Guru Hanging Remembered

A Complete shutdown was observed across the North Kashmir’s Rafiabad in view of the third death anniversary of the Ubaid Mushtaq, a 9th class student of watergam Rafiabad who was shot dead by CRPF personnel a day after Mohammed Afzal Guroo was hanged in Delhi’s Tihar Jail.

All shops and business establishments remained closed with traffic at the minimal in the Rafiabad Constituency.




The daily chores of people were affected owing to non availability of Public transport.

Even after completing three years, people in the area and acquaintances of Ubaid, a 9th class student narrate events of that fateful day amid sobs and tears in eyes.

Ubaid,according to locals was badly  injured in a road accident a day before his death and was not part of the stone pelting and protests which followed a day after Afzal Guroo was hanged But instead of firing warning shots in air CRPF personnel violating Standard operating procedures (SOP) fired directly towards Ubaid a passer by killing him on spot.

Parents  of deceased while narrating the tragedy said: “Ubaid was not part of the protest. He was watching mob from a long distance but didn’t join them,” said Ubaid’s Father, Mushtaq Ahmed, who was watching the ongoing protests from his neighbour’s house.




“After half an hour of stone pelting and protests CRPF personnel fired continuously. Initially Ubaid was injured including many others; he was shifted to hospital but succumbed on way,” he said.
“This was a target killing in which Ubaid received many bullets  and no magistrate was present at the time of killng  , said mother of ubaid.

Relatives told Kashmir Scenario that the culprits should be booked and brought to justice according to law. Cops have not even fired warning shots to disperse the protesters violating SOP while dealing with the protests.

Meanwhile a case vide FIR no 8/2013 under section 307 was registered against the personnel of Central Reserve Police Force of 92 Battalion unit at  Police station Dangiwacha but parents of Ubaid are yet to receive Justice and according to them putting involved CRPF personnel behind bars as soon as possible will be in the interest of Justice
