SMC employees demand action against Aqib Renzu for using unethical approach

Srinagar 29 Sept (KNB): Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) employees on Tuesday staged a strong protest against Corporator Aqib Renzu for misbehaving with SMC Commissioner Gazanfar Ali during financial and Planning development meeting.

The protesters demanded to dissolve the council to save the corporation from the corruption and also demanded strict action against the Corporator Aqib Renzu for using unparliamentary language against the Commissioner.

General Secretary Municipal Employees Union Nazir Ahmad Ahangar said , “Corporators are always trying to interfere in the developmental work which is affecting the Srinagar city badly. Yesterday, one of the corporator used unparliamentary language against the Commissioner. This will not be tolerated at all. We condemn the act and demand strict action against the Corporator.”

“This is not a first time that corporators are doing these kind of acts against our employees, they always harass safaiwalas and other employees of SMC,” he further said.

Talking on this issue, Acting Mayor Parvez Qadari said, “The meeting was chaired by me if Aqib Renzu had an issue, he should address me rather to argue with Commissioner. When asked about the allegation of corruption raised by Renzu, Parvez said, if they are corrupt then Renzu is also corrupt because he is part of the council.

When Kashmir News Bureau Contacted Commissioner SMC Gazanfar Ali he said, “We treat him as a child, it is asy to blame anyone. His god father was calling asking he would apologize.”

“I am against corruption and not going to allow any kind of Corruption in SMC and few corporators are trying to defame the corporation by using different tactics,” he further said.

Earlier in April this year, SMC employees alleged that Councilor Latif Mir manhandled and abused two SMC employees Fatima Karim of Batwara and Mehrajuddin Sheikh of Kulgam. (KNB)
