Slapping 4th PSA on aged man’ a shameful act: JeI

Police detains Sheikh Mohammad Yousuf on political vengeance

Srinagar, Oct 22 : Jama’at-e-Islami Jammu and Kashmir (JeI) on Sunday said that the veteran octogenarian member of Jama’a-e-Islami and a famous social leader of Sopore Sheikh Mohammad Yousuf has been detained fourth time by the local police under the draconian law of the Public Safety Act (PSA) despite the fact that the High court has quashed all the detention order imposed on him and passed strictures against the police as well as the detaining authority who without applying their minds judiciously have passed the orders mechanically as an act of vengeance and personal grudge against the victim whose two sons have already martyred, one by the army near Badamibagh Cantonment and another by some unknown gunmen.

In a statement issued to KNS, JeI Chief Spokesperson, Advocate Zahid Ali said the police instead of trapping the killers of the innocent sons of these old aged parents who have been left only with small orphaned kids of a slain son, started to harass and intimidate the victims of oppression for raising the voice against the perpetrators of the tyranny and apprehended this old man during the Burhan Wani public agitation and so far four orders of detention have been imposed upon him with two extensions in between since his first arrest despite the High court orders of declaring all these draconian orders as illegal having no justification.

He said that this act of Sopore police clearly vindicates that there is no rule of law in the valley and the court orders carry no weight before such police authorities ruling this unfortunate part of the globe and as such there is the Police Raj and the democracy is just in the law books having no force on the ground. This retributive policy of the police has rotten the whole atmosphere.

Zahid Ali said that a section of the police instead of performing its mandatory duty is bent upon crushing the fundamental and democratic rights of the hapless Kashmiri people. The police should have been public friendly but a group of it has degraded it in the eyes of the general masses only for securing the vested interests.

Jama’at-e-Islami Jammu and Kashmir strongly denounces the imposition of 4th consecutive detention upon Sheikh Yousuf aged more than eighty years and calls this act as a personal vengeance against the victim of the lawlessness going on in the valley which is a blatant violation of the fundamental human rights.

Jama’at appeals the international human rights bodies and Kashmir Bar Association to intervene in this matter to get justice and save this old man from the personal enmity of some police authorities misusing their position. (KNS)
