Baramulla: Residents of many villages of Baramulla district alleged that Power Development Department (PDD) has unprecedented hike power- tariff.

People from Sheikhpora, Barziwachan, Kakuthal, Pasnag, Saloosa, Frasthar and other villages alleged that the department has increased the power tariff without intimation.

The residents alleged that the PDD resorts to frequent power cuts and termed the recent hike in tariff unjustified.

“In our villages meters are not installed, we use to pay Rs 357 earlier which has been increased to Rs 544 without any notice,” said one of the villager.

They added “The PDD doesn’t even stick to their own schedule and we don’t even get proper power supply.”

The residents alleged that the concerned AEE, PDD Electric Sub-division Wagoora is not cooperating despite continuous reminders.

“We brought this issue into his notice but seems no response. He hardly pays heed to our queries. Besides that whenever transformer develops technical snags, he asks us to repair by our own,” said another resident.

Joginder Singh, Axen, PDD Baramulla when contacted said that he will call upon AEE, PDD Electric Sub-division Wagoora and will look into the matter.
