Protests Erupt In Devsar After Fisherman’s Body Reaches Home

The family of a guard of Fisheries department who was killed last night after government forces laid a siege to Tchansar village of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district has demanded an impartial probe to bring his killers to justice.

Meanwhile, protests erupted in Mundhal in Devsar – native village of the Asadullah Kumar – against his killing.

The protesters were marching towards the highway with the body of Kumar to register their protest and press for their demands to order a probe into his killing.

Kumar was killed last night after forces laid a siege to Tchansar village.

While police said that Kumar was killed in cross-fire, locals said that they heard only a few gunshots.

His brother said that they received the body of Kumar last night at 11:30 pm. “No police personnel or Fisheries department employees were accompanying his body,” he said.
“God knows what happened…he (Kumar) was posted in Tchansar village. Army men came and shot him dead while he was on duty,” he added.
