Over 60 Jammu and Kashmir legislators enjoy accommodation without paying rent, reveals RTI

More than 60 Members of Legislative Assembly of Jammu and Kashmir enjoy all facilities and accommodations without paying rent to the state exchequer.




‘’While the Jammu and Kashmir government is paying millions of rupees as rent to hotels and private houses for providing accommodation to senior bureaucrats and other Darbar move government officers, the MLAs and MLCs refuse to vacate at least 62 government accommodations occupied by them without any entitlement,’’ said a reply against the RTI filed by activist Balvinder Singh.

Singh said the bigwig politicians occupying multiple accommodations belongs to all political parties including BJP, Congress, National Conference, Peoples Democratic Party and even Independent Legislatures.

Expressing shock over syphoning of government resources by the politicians, he said that parties and politicians who came to power on the slogan of transparency and accountability and always talk about morality in politics, their legislatures also enjoying multiple accommodations in the twin capital cities of Jammu and Kashmir in violation of the rules.

18 legislatures of ruling Jammu and Kashmir PDP, 13 of BJP, 13 of INC, 13 of Jammu and Kashmir National Conference and other independent Legislatures are enjoying multiple accommodations in twin capital cities of Jammu and Srinagar.
