Kashmir Observes Complete shutdown on JRL Call

Srinagar, March 08(KNB): Life was hit on Friday across Kashmir valley due to the compelete Shutdown Call by Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Yasin Malik against the detention of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik and also the arrest of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) cadres.




Shutdown is being observed all over the valley, shops,educational institutions and other commercial establishments are closed in Srinagar and other district headquarters of the valley.

Public transport is off the roads while a thin movement of private vehicles is witnessed in uptown areas of Srinagar city.

Authorities have imposed restrictions in Maisuma, Rainawari, Khanyar, M.R. Gunj and Safa Kadal areas of Srinagar city while a heavy contingents of state police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) have been deployed in law and order sensitive areas.

Meanwhile, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has been placed under house arrest at his residence ,Geelani continues to remain under house arrest in Hyderpora locality of Srinagar.

Earlier, Malik was detained on Thrusday under the Public Safety Act (PSA) and was shifted to the Kot Balwal Jail in Jammu district.




Some of the recently detained senior JI leaders have also been booked under the PSA and were shifted to jails outside the valley.(KNB)
