Police uses teargas shells to control the situation’

Srinagar | April 1 : The West-Indies win over India in the World T20 semi-final Thursday has cost for Kashmiri Students studying at NIT Srinagar, after they came out of their hostels to celebrate the victory.




The celebrations by the local students, according to reports, didn’t go well with the non-local students mostly Hindus that led confrontation.  The situation turned violent on Friday after the congregational prayers when the non-local students shouted anti-Pakistan slogans.

Some local students wishing not to be named, while narrating the whole incident said when West Indies crushed Indian cricket team in World Cup t2o semi-finals, students celebrated win of West Indies team.”




“The celebrations did not go well with non-local students who ensued in verbal fight. After we finished our Friday prayers today, non-Kashmiri students took out a march in NIT campus damaging classroom infrastructure. They were shouting anti-Pakistan and pro-India slogans,” the students said.

The students even said as this was not enough, the non-local students even roughed up some Kashmiri students.

Till late reports, the local students were continuing with their protest demonstration in-front of administrative block of NIT seeking action against the accused. (PTK)
