NC slams Hurriyat for interfering in govt formation

SRINAGAR — The National Conference (NC) on Wednesday while castigating the Huriyat leadership over issuing statements over the government formation, said people cannot be left at the mercy of the dreadful situation.

Both the factions of the Huriyat Conference had castigated the political parties here over paving ways for the Bharatiya Janta Party to enter into the political landscape of Kashmir.

“We really fail to understand that when the separatist leadership during the elections had issued a boycott call and had urged the people of the state to stay away from polls, how could it interfere in the formation of the government,” NC additional general secretary Dr Sheikh Mustafa Kamal told Kashmir Scenario.

He maintained further that there are several Huriyat leaders who had stated that polls are the non- issue and can in no way infringe upon the Kashmir cause. “If it is a non-issue, how come long speeches and statements are being issued at present. Once they have boycotted the polls, they should not poke their heads into the process of the government formation,” said Kamal.

Kamal who is also the younger brother of NC patron Dr Farooq Abdullah, said the people have voted for the mitigation of their day to day issues and they cannot be left at the mercy the situation. “As Hurriyat leaders are busy in scuttling the formation of the new government by issuing statements, does that mean Hurriyat is going to provide alternate government to the perturbed people of the state? They must come clear over such issues.”

Kamal also stated that the NC is committed to provide unconditional support to People Democratic Party (PDP), if required, for the formation of the new government. “There has been no change in our policy. We are ready to support PDP if it wants us. The ball is now in their court.”

The senior NC leader was quick to castigate PDP, saying BJP and PDP have already been in alliance and at present the discussions are nothing but the sheer amounts of the face saving going on. “I can tell you that PDP and BJP are already in alliance. In 2008, they staged the Amarnath land row and both got benefitted during the following polls. In parliament polls also, they had a pact. It is BJP that indeed has created the PDP. ”
