My Meaning of Life

Writes Shahzad Hussain Hamdani

Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.- Winston Churchill

Life is the sum of experiences that we encounter as we go through life. Day to day struggles and triumphs are experienced by all of the world’s creatures. As human beings, when we encounter a challenge, we have freedom to choose how to react. Every decision that we make leads us down a different road. But what is this Freedom? For a Modern Man Freedom has a two-fold meaning: that he has been freed from traditional authorities and has become an ‘individual,’ but that at the same time he has become isolated, powerless and an instrument of purposes outside of himself, alienated from himself and others; furthermore, that this state undermines his self, weakens and frightens him, and makes him ready for submission to new kinds of bondage.”
As Said All life demands struggle. Those who have everything given to them become lazy, selfish, and insensitive to the real values of life. The very striving and hard work that we so constantly try to avoid is the major building block in the person we are today. There are a few times in your life when all your instincts will tell you to do something, something that is based on struggle, something that pushes us to tougher roads and it is that point of our life we need to understand that the battle of life is, in most cases, fought uphill; and to win it without a struggle were perhaps to win it without honour. If there were no difficulties there would be no success; if there were nothing to struggle for, there would be nothing to be achieved. Strength Grows out Of Struggle and your successes are based on how well you overcome your struggles in life because Struggle is a clever device through which nature compels humanity, which includes you to develop, expand and progress. It’s either an ordeal or a magnificent experience, depending on your attitude toward it.
As i am writing this article, I pray that all the suffering in the world find light amid the darkness and that we have the strength to carry forth this light into our homes, schools, offices, and houses of worship, creating a beautiful and bold flame that inspires others overcome every struggle we encounter in our life.
Your life from birth to death is quite literally an unbroken chain of ever-increasing, unavoidable struggle.

I remember a brief story related to struggle that i would like to share with the readers.

A man found a cocoon of an emperor moth. He took it home so that he could watch the moth come out of the cocoon. On the day a small opening appeared, he sat and watched the moth for several hours as the moth struggled to force the body through that little hole.

The moth seemed to be stuck and appeared to have stopped making progress. It seemed as if it had gotten as far as it could and it could go no farther. The man, in his kindness, decided to help the moth; so he took a pair of scissors and snipped off the remaining bit of the cocoon. The moth then emerged easily. But its body was swollen and small, its wings wrinkled and shrivelled.

The man continued to watch the moth because he expected that, at any moment, the wings would enlarge and expand to and able to support the body, which would contract in time. Neither happened! In fact, the little moth spent the rest of its life crawling around with a small, swollen body and shrivelled wings. It never was able to fly.

The man in his kindness and haste did not understand that the struggle required for the moth to get through the tiny opening was necessary to force fluid from the body of the moth into its wings so that it would be ready for flight upon achieving its freedom from the cocoon. Freedom and flight would only come after the struggle. By depriving the moth of a struggle, he deprived the moth of health.

Whatever we achieve in life is through struggle. Sometimes struggles are exactly what we need in our life. If we were to go through our life without any obstacles, we would be crippled. We would not be as strong as what we could have been. Give every opportunity a chance, leave no room for regrets, and take some time to memorize some motivational quotes. Make it through even the gloomiest and most challenging of times by planting life inspiring messages in your heart and soul.
