Militant Killed In Kunzer Gunfight

A militant was killed and three army soldiers were injured in an encounter between them at Kunzar area of Tangmarg in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Wednesday.

Army’s Srinagar based senior defence official that acting on a tip off, a joint team of army’s 2 RR and police cordoned off the Bogam area of Kunzar.

As the joint team party intensified the searches in the village, the officer said, the militants present in the village opened fire which was retaliated, ensuing an encounter.

“In the encounter, so far one militant has been of Hizbul Mujahideen outfit was killed and was identified as Nisar Wani son of Ali Mohd of Aatipura, Kunjar,” the defence official said.

He said that a large quantity of arms, ammunition and other war like stores have been recovered from his possession.

“Three army soldiers also sustained injuries during the gunfight while ensuring no damage is caused to the locals of the area. The Operation was undertaken by the Army with utmost care to ensure safety to the residents of the area with minimum inconvenience to the locals”, the defence official claimed.

The injured soldiers have been immediately evacuated to 92 Base Hospital for the treatment, the defence official said, adding that the operation was still going on in the area.
