Legislators train guns against each other over killings

Weren’t Shaista,Handwara girl, Laadli Beti’s: NC MLC

Srinagar | May 31: Legislative council witnessed ruckus over the unabated killings of civilians.

NC legislator Showkat Ganie asked the government why “Shaiyasta Hamid was killed by forces”, why you put Handwara girl’s dignity at stake. Weren’t these Ladli Beti’s?” Ganie asked.

“BJP MLC has said that Saluhdidin was the creation of the NC. But the reality is that NC has given supreme sacrifices during the last two decades to bring peace in the state.  Educated youth are joining militant rules due to PDP-BJP ill policies and communal politics. Everyone wants to become Salahuddin due to your (PDP-BJP) policies,” the NC legislator said.

He said the PDP-BJP government was weakening the Article 370. “You said Farooq Abdullah is founding member JKLF but every leader in the state has been weakened by the centre,” Ganie said.

Surindar Kumar of the BDP while hitting back at the NC said, “How many people were killed during your tenure. You killed Haji Yousuf. The militancy is returning when the NC ruled the state.” He said the PDP came to existence due to ill policies of the NC- Congress

Surinder Ambardar of the BJP said the PDP-BJP coalition was true reflection of democracy. “We don’t expect anything from the failed state like Pakistan which promotes terrorism and extremism.”

“Instead we should bring the house in order. The centre government should revisit its Kashmir policy and engage youth. We should not promote JK as victim state. JK is an integral part of India and will remain so,” he said. He demanded that migrant Kashmiri Pandits should be accommodated in smart cities.

Qaiser Jamshed Lone termed the Governor address “directionless” and said there is no road map of PDP BJP government. “You said before elections that you will stop BJP from entering into Kashmir and were a reason for brisk polling. But you have cheated the Kashmir people by joining hands with the BJP as the people wanted to keep BJP at bay.”

He said the Chief Minister and deputy chief minister were giving contradictory statements which has created confusion in the state. “CM pigeon cat remark has strengthened the vested interest like Anupam Khar. In opposition you said the battle of ideas but now you put separatists behind bar,” he said.

Yasir Reshi said the exile of Kashmiri Pandits is blot of Kashmiris. “We should bring them respectfully and stop politicizing it.” “Farooq Abdullah used to say bomb Pakistan. You killed120 youth, now hue and cry on five killings.”

BJP MLC Sofi Yusuf said the NC made Mohammad Yusuf into Salluhdin who was winning 1986 elections. “NC-Congress is responsible for killings in Kashmir.  You forced Pandits to exile,” he accused.  While Rakesh Gupta said, “The crime rate and women harassment has increased during the PDP-BJP rule.” Vikramaditya and Sham Lal, Saifuddin Bhat also participated in the debate.
