Kashmir Shuts For 109th Consecutive Day

The Kashmir Valley on Tuesday remained shut for the 109rd consecutive day with heavy security deployment in Srinagar and other parts as the separatists have issued another weekly protest calendar extending the shutdown till October 27.

However, there was no curfew anywhere in the Valley, a  official said. Main markets, public transport and other businesses have remained suspended but are expected to open this evening as separatists have given a 14-hour relaxation in the shutdown from 5 PM.




Today is the last relaxation period for this week.

All educational institutions, including schools, colleges and universities have remained shut since the present unrest began on July 9.

Ninty Five civilians have died and nearly 15,000 — including civilians and security forces were injured in clashes during this period.
