Kashmir Press Club takes up restoration of communication, harassment of journalists with IGP Kashmir

Srinagar: The executive body of Kashmir Press Club met Inspector General of Police Swayam Prakash Pani to discuss the issues faced by journalists in the Valley.

During the meeting, issues including restoration of mobile phones and internet services to journalists and newspapers and harassment including summoning of journalists by police were taken up with him. The club highlighted the problems faced by journalists due to ongoing communication blockade.

The Inspector General of Police, Kashmir assured the club body that efforts would made to sanitize security personnel to ensure media persons particularly photo and video journalists are allowed to carry out their work during restrictions.

He asked the club body to submit a list of accredited journalists and editors for restoration of their mobile phones. Accordingly, the club is going to submit the list of accredited journalists, editors as well as list of registered members of Kashmir Press Club. The club expects that necessary action is taken to restore mobile phones of journalists at the earliest.

The delegation of the Club comprised president Shuja Ul Haq, vice president Moazum Mohammad, general secretary Ishfaq Tantry, treasurer Farooq Javid Khan and executive members Nissar Ahmad and Arshad Hussain.
