Infiltration bid foiled at Tanghdar; four militants, trooper killed: Army

Srinagar, June 16 : Army on Thursday claimed to have foiled an infiltration bid by killing four militants near Line of Control (LoC) in Tanghdar sector of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district while a soldier has also been killed in the exchange of gunfire.




A defence official told news agency GNS that four militants have been killed in an ongoing operation at Tangdhar. He said who was injured in the gunfire exchange succumbed to his injuries in a hospital.

While the militants are yet to be identified the slain soldier has been identified as Prem Bahadur. The operation in the area is on and additional forces have been summoned to kill the infiltrators, the defence official added.




Pertinently, On Wednesday, a militant and a soldier were killed while as at least five troopers were injured in a gunfight between government forces and a group of infiltrators at Machhil sector in the frontier district. The search operation to flush out the militants at Machhil continued today as well.
Sources said the army pressed in choppers and additional reinforcements to track down the militants who according to sources gave slip to forces yesterday. However there was no fresh exchange of fire between the two sides when this report was being filed. (GNS)
