I appeal to students to concentrate on academics: IGP Munir Khan

‘We will try our best to restore peace in Kashmir’

Srinagar, May 17 : The newly appointed Inspector General of Police, Kashmir Range, Munir Khan, who took over the rein of the department Wednesday, has appealed to the students “to concentrate on your education” as “without education, no one can excel in his life”.“I appeal to the students to concentrate on studies and academics. Without education, no one can excel in his life. Be it a sportsman or any other working person,” Khan told KNS in an exclusive conversation after taking over as the IGP.

“If the students have any grievances, they should approach the appropriate forum where their grievances will be redressed. Stone pelting and taking to streets does not suit students who are the future of our society,” he said.

On the prevailing volatile situation, the IGP said that police will try its “best to set things right” in Kashmir.

“We will try our best to set things rights and restore peace in Kashmir. Things are not as bad here as are being portrayed,” he said.

Asked about the continuous detention of Hurriyat leaders, the IGP said that “if situation improves, we will see about all things”.

“We allowed him (Geelani) for medical consultation today,” the IGP replied when asked about Hurriyat (G) alleging police having denied him permission for medical consultation.

On his message to the people of the valley, the IGP said that peace should prevail in the state if people want to move ahead in progress and prosperity.

“I am a lover of peace and my message to all is to help in bringing peace. Peace should prevail. I appeal all, with hands folded, to help in peace. Let’s us all live in peace,” he told KNS.

“It is not an IGP saying, but Munir Khan, a concerned citizen of the state, who represents police, and who has concern for businessmen, tourists, students and all the people of the state,” he said. (KNS)
