Srinagar, 04 April KNB): Ruhi Jaan, young female student of district Kulgam blind by birth aspiring for Special B.ed entrance in J&K has accused Board of Professional Entrance Examinations (BOPEE) of providing her a Scribe(helper) who was incompetent to read properly her question paper.

Ruhi, who recently appeared for special B.ed entrance for session 2019 alleged that neither BOPEE provided her competent scribe nor was she permitted to accompany her own competent helper(scribe) or reader which as per rule a blind student can take along to the exam centre for help at their own cost.

While talking to Kashmir News Bureau, Ruhi said “I am blind by birth and had compeleted my PG despite facing lot of hurdles. I had recently appeared for special B.ed entrance test and to qualify exam I need a scribe(helper) who would have been fully capable to read question paper for me but unfortunately I was provided a scribe by BOPEE administration who was not even able to read a single objective for me. ”

She further said “Despite being disabled I want to study further, and want to compelete my studies at time as normal students do, I am appealing that we should be provided proper help by Government so that our Visual Imapairment will no longer become hurdle for us as we are also the part of this society.”

While talking to Kashmir News Bureau on phone, Chairman BOPEE Muhammad Ashraf Bukhari said ” Visually impaired or Students with Locomotor disabilities are provided scribe by the College authority at beginning but the said girl, Ruhi was not satisfied with that scribe which was provided to her by BOPEE as according to the candidate he was not capable of anything and she asked for other scribe at later hours, she should have come before two or three months but still we provided her a scribe who as per rules should be two classes lower than the candidate.”

He further said, “I personally visited the centre and checked out, the scribe was perfectly reading out her questions but she was not getting him, the Incharges even had changed scribe for her but she was not understanding any single question.we fully support and help disabled candidates, but such students should not take disadvantage of their disability.”(KNB)
