Attack on Journalist by PDP Minister shameful – NC

Why hasn’t any action been taken by the CM? – NC Spokesman

CM’s silence tantamount to patronizing such behavior

Srinagar | Tuesday, June 23, 2015: National Conference on Tuesday expressed disappointment over the refusal of the Chief Minister to take action against an erring PDP Minister who asked his personal security guards to attack a senior Greater Kashmir journalist.

According to statement issued to The Kashmir Scenario NC Spokesman Junaid Azim Mattu while condemning the attack on Greater Kashmir Senior Editor Javaid Malik by the personal security of PDP leader and Minister for Agriculture, Ghulam Nabi Lone (Hanjura) said the Chief Minister’s conspicuous silence and indifference on this issue was tantamount to patronizing an assault on journalists which is unbecoming of the responsibilities that come with the Chief Minister’s chair. “There has also not been an unconditional apology from the concerned PDP Minister which is shocking given how ruthlessly he had apparently instructed his guards to assault the senior journalist. Seems like PDP is going back to the days of Mufti Sahab as Home Minister of India when people weren’t allowed to walk on the roads without being humiliated and harassed. On one hand civilians in Sopore are dreading the re-invention of Ikhwani Rule and on the other hand PDP Cabinet Ministers are travelling on our roads like Mafia Lords. What a fall from grace for PDP which claimed a moral high ground on all such issues”, NC Spokesman Junaid Mattu added.

Expressing solidarity with the media fraternity, the NC Spokesman said the party supports and lauds the peaceful protest march of the media fraternity that started from Press Enclave in Srinagar today. “We are with the media fraternity and the victim and support their demand for justice. Justice needs to be swift and effective in this case and the Chief Minister will be personally liable if he continues to shield his erring Minister”, the NC Spokesman said.
