Srinagar: Amid sealing of many buildings after High Court direction, Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) is facilitating “illegal” constructions of influential people.

A video clip clearly shows how SMC officials allegedly in nexus with top bureaucrats and politically well connected people are facilitating illegal constructions.

Sources in the Corporation said that the video clip can be a tip of an ice Berg that how city’s much publicised Master Plan was being violated by some corrupt officials. “The video clip can be  a major jolt to government’s inquiry into the Master Plan violations in the past,” sources said.

The Video cleary shows how scores of fresh illegal constructions are going on in the City in nexus with SMC officials.

From Ahmed Nagar in north City to Rawalpora in the south, to places like Lal-chowk, Jawahar Nagar, Gogji bagh and Raj Bagh in between, the constructions are going on “hassle free”, literally under the nose of the civic body  and stand tall in violation of building bylaws with the municipal authorities showing their helplessness in stopping the same.

After the devastating floods of 2014, the illegal constructions have alarmingly increased in the city and The Kashmir scenario is in possession of such a video which depicts how a corrupt officer of SMC is was facilitating illegal constructions.

The officials after taking hefty money from people not only put city’s master plan aside, but also violate High Court directions.

At many places, the people have encroached upon roads and state land either by bribing the officials or using political influence.

Reportedly, the administration in Srinagar has officially admitted rise in Master Plan violations and government land grab.

And SMC Commissioner, Showkat Ahmed Zargar has admitted that there has been a considerable increase in illegal constructions in Srinagar City.
