Academic Session Paradox confounds Kashmir

The ongoing agitation in Kashmir has affected the  student community grossly. But, now the session confusion is making the picture murkier. Few days back,in a crowded press conference  Jammu & Kashmir Board of School Education (BOSE) Chairman, Zahoor Ahmad Chatt, made it clear that 50 percent syallabus relaxation would be given to students undergoing exams in November.

He said that in view of prevailing circumstances in the valley, BOSE had formulated Assessment Scheme in Question papers in which papers have been set in way as to provide relaxation in the syllabus.

In another turnaround of events, Jammu and Kashmir government in yet another move has decided to hold another separate exam for class 10 and 12 students in March next year if they fail to appear in November exams.

However, there would be no relaxation in syllabus for the students of both the classes appearing in March exams.

People have mixed opinions over this. Wahid Jehangir, a parent stated – “It is a welcome step that Government has come up with these two alternatives for the students of Kashmir- Those students who want to undergo exams in November for fifty percent syllabus can do so, While as those who want to go for exams in March for 100 percent syllabus is free to do so. It is a welcome step.”

While talking to The Kashmir Scenario, Shameema Firdous, Senior National Conference Leader and MLA Habbakadal stated -“Students have been made scapegoat for the fake normalcy slogans. This decision has created confusion- Government should either go for conducting exams in November or March. How long will students will have to wait for overall results – Will the November students have to wait March session.
