Dept organizes inaugural function of 28th road safety week-2017





Srinagar, Jan 09 (KNS): The Traffic police department on Monday said that in view of the adverse weather condition in City Srinagar, the present condition of roads has deteriorated which has increased the traffic congestion on main roads and the consequent inconvenience to the commuters.According to the statement issued to KNS, the officials said that to overcome the present congestion due to frost and bad road condition, traffic police in the first instance, proposes to throw open Bemina-Qamarwari-Parimpora road stretch for both incoming and outgoing traffic on a temporary basis, till the weather condition improves.The statement reads that the commuters are advised to strictly follow the traffic plan on Bemina-Qamarwari-Parimpora road stretch.“Public service vehicles shall use identified bus bays and bus stops. Commuters are advised to follow lane driving strictly and avoid multiple lines for smooth flow of traffic on this road stretch for smooth flow of traffic and convenience of general public. Any type of violations would invite heavy penalties under rules/ M.V Act,” the statement added.

Meanwhile, Traffic Police City Srinagar in collaboration with RTO Kashmir organized the inaugural function of 28th Road Safety Week-2017 at Hotel Management Rajbagh, Srinagar in which Farooq Ahmad Lone, DC Srinagar was the Chief Guest.

Farooq Ahmad Rather-KAS RTO Kashmir, Fayaz Ahmad Lone-SSP Traffic City Srinagar along with other officers were present.

Besides other Guests, NGOs, NSS Volunteers and other people attended the function.
At the outset of the function Fayaz Ahmad Lone-KPS SSP Traffic City Srinagar appraised the participants about the public indiscipline on road and laid stress on strict adherence of traffic rules and regulations.

While addressing the audience the officers laid stress on public cooperation to ensure safe and smooth flow of traffic in City Srinagar.

The function concluded after DC Srinagar flagged off a Car Rally from Hotel Management Complex Rajbagh, Srinagar which passed through M.A Road and other parts of the City which later on culminated at Secretariat Crossing.

The purpose of the Car Rally was to disseminate traffic awareness and education among general public and road users.

The statement issued to KNS reads that later stickers and counseling session of commuters and drivers were taken up through traffic police and various NGOs.


The functions will be held throughout the week it would include awareness of drivers/ conductors and counseling session. Besides awareness at college level/symposium/ discussions. (KNS)
